The Man Behind The Curtain – Server Downtime
So some of you may have noticed (!) that we had a major outage Weds to Fri (27 to 30 Aug) that took down pretty much everything – Alexa feeds, full broadcast, site, email… Everything.
This was due to a domain transfer going awry (I won’t mention any names) and then further ‘support’ being of an idiotic level of incompetence.
No P1 outage should take 72 hours to resolve and, whilst it is too soon to know what damage has been to done to listener numbers and things like the Alexa algorithms and status but I am working hard to try and introduce more robust failover systems. The problem is that if someone accidentally deleted all your domain records, you don’t really have anywhere to failover to!
So, big apologies. Please stick with us as we try and get back to where we should be and were.
We, or rather I, started Nude radio about 2 years ago now and it has taken that long, with me doing all the heavy lifting – design, coding, architecture, q+a, UAT, app build, etc. as Mutley really only produces and writes (and he’s been OOO for a while now!) – to get from zero to four digit uniques listeners a day. To see that work, those 80 hour weeks, threatened was genuinely heartbreaking and, believe me, those 72 hours contained perhaps three hours sleep.
There was a point t where it looked like the domains were gone forever. I had the data but no name for ages. At that point I couldn’t see a way back and Nearly threw in the towel.
Sadly for you all, I didn’t.
But it IS a fragile state and I am a fragile state! The Friday Frisson will be back this Friday but the autumn changes are having to slow so I can concentrate on getting us stable and steady again.
So sorry – it hurt me far more than you, I am sure – but we ARE back.
Lots of love,
